2007 Political Hotspots: Juja Constituency

The shape of how the battle for the Juja seat will be began when George Thuo declared his interest in the seat with indications that aspirants were prepared to play dirty in the race. By all indications, the contest will depend on who can flush out more money between billionaire MP William Kabogo and the George Thuo, the man behind the Citi Hoppa transport magic. Up to September, Kabogo was keen on Narc-K, probably eyeing the party's nod as its man in the constituency. However, the emergence of Thuo, a close ally of John Michuki, the powerful Minister of State in charge of Internal Security, forced Kabogo to retreat from Narc-Kenya.

At one time, rumour had it that Kabogo was gravitating towards the ODM brigade. He was said to have airlifted ODM group to the last rally of the party. In the last few months of last year, he spent most of his energy trying to wrest the control of the two MP strong Sisi Kwa Sisi party from its bona fide officials. As an indication of the nasty atmosphere that will prevail this year, Kabogo flew over a party that Thuo had hosted to the constituents, blowing dust and soil into the food that the guest were eating.

On the other hand, Thuo has been crisscrossing the industrial hub, dishing out monies to the churches, women groups and schools. The tug of war between the two might overshadow the so called two-horse race between Narc-Kenya and ODM-Kenya.  The leading aspirant on an ODM ticket, David Nzioka, has been active in mobilizing and drumming up support for the party. An associate of Kalonzo Musyoka, one of the party's so called luminaries, his fortunes will highly depend on the decision Musyoka makes after the presidential nominations in the party. Patrick Hato, who was allegedly rigged out of Kanu nomination in favour of Stephen Ndicho, will be making a comeback but his fortunes are dependent on the fortunes of Uhuru Kenyatta, both within Kanu and ODM-K.

As for Ndicho, who is born again, it will be interesting to see which party he uses for his attempt at a comeback. In the 2002 elections, he threw his weight behind Uhuru and lost miserably to Kabogo. He then took a Bible and became a preacher.

  1. I like the nasty-ness of Kabogo. The hovering move was so mafioso.

  2. I feel that people should live kabogo alone .He does what he does and he seems to succed in everything if 24,000 people voted him in who are we to judge him .

  3. Next to the ever entertaining Mathira political battles the Juja duel between Kabogo and Thuo will prove to be another intriguing spectacle this year. My money is on Thuo clinching the nomination from Narc-K/Narc and going on to win, Kabogo's mafioso tactics withstanding.

  4. I believe that Kabogo is the right man for juja.During the four years he has held the seat,Juja has been voted the second best constituency in terms of managing the CDF kitty. If he can provide such transparent leadership i wonder what else Juja people want.

  5. george thuo should first get his own home in order; if he cant take care of his wife how does he expect to run 24,000 constituents ..... not hating here but then again money talks! will he afford it? kabogo is the money bags and he definately is clinching this seat despite not having done much for his peoples. all Mps should emulate the Gatanga Mp PEter Kenneth he has worked wonders on Gatanga you almost think you are a city misplaced in thika town ....

  7. Let us reserve the juja seat to George Thuo coz he is a great inspiration. Time has come when the electorate must put the aspirants under a microscope and discard those that that in their dealings cannot be role models to our youth. George, you have what it takes.
