Raila Odinga: No need for fresh elections in Kenya

Raila Odinga today dismissed calls for fresh elections in Kenya. Kalonzo and the PNU parliamentary group had indicated they are ready for a fresh election. This cue was taken up by a section of ODM MPs who also wants fresh election to give Kenya a clear mandate to govern.

Raila says permanent secretaries have to be shared on a 50-50 basis as will be other civil service jobs. PNU rejected this condition. PNU is ready to hand over local government, transport, roads and energy but retains foreign affairs.

Raila has had a busy week with the international media and meeting foreign diplomats. The diplomats wants Kibaki to allow ODM to have real powers.

Raila has further clarified that the cabinet talks have not collapsed as widely perceived. The talks will resume soon.
